LTTT at the 5th World Energy Storage Conference in Istanbul

Bayreuth, December 10th 2025

The 5th World Energy Storage Conference took place at Yıldız Technical University in Istanbul from December 7th to 10th 2025.

The Department of Engineering Thermodynamics and Transport Processes (LTTT) was represented with two contributions and presented current topics of research relating to energy storage systems and their integration into real energy systems.

A particular highlight was the invited talk by Professor Brüggemann, who gave a comprehensive presentation on the relationship between scientific research and practical application in real energy systems. He presented current research projects at the LTTT Department and explained their practical application in cooperation with the Future Energy Lab (FEL) Wunsiedel.

Chris Burkel presented the implementation of seasonal ice storage in mixed-integer simulation models. The TAO energy system served as a case study, which was used to clearly demonstrate the modeling and behavior of seasonal storage solutions.
