Lynn Briese, a doctoral researcher at the Center for Energy Technology (ZET) at the University of Bayreuth, received the Best Poster Award at the World Geothermal Congress 2026 in Calgary. Her contribution "Heat Pumps for Geothermal Heat and Steam Supply," co-authored with Jaromir Jeßberger, Dr.-Ing. Florian Heberle, and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dieter Brüggemann, was awarded the People's Choice Award. The Geothermal Alliance Bavaria warmly congratulates the team.
Her research is part of the Bayreuth working group's activities on high-temperature heat pumps for process steam supply at temperatures of up to 150 °C. Ms. Briese uses experimental data from the retrofit of a pilot plant to validate her simulation models, which are subsequently used to evaluate promising application scenarios—for example, in the food or paper industry. The award builds directly on the working group's recently published paper on the part-load behavior of high-temperature heat pumps.
